Hélène van Oudheusden is a Dutch, international pedagogical & personal counselor for teachers for migrant children and an expert in on the ground refugee reception in Greece.
She offers seminars on trauma-sensitive teaching and organizes study visits for teachers to Lesvos, Greece. Hélène works in several countries to support teachers in personal growth. Author of Teaching Refugee Children.
Together with Hélène van Oudheusden we wanted to support our children, teachers and parents in their social-emotional development and well-being on Lesvos. We have successfully organized five seminars about Mindfulness & Positive Teaching/Parenting in Molyvos. Participants came from several villages including from the capital of our beautiful island.
I have enjoyed Hélène’s enthusiasm, and pedagogical and international experience. Our teachers, parents and children loved the seminars and felt inspired to apply the practical tools and exercises in their daily life.

Empower Yourself at Work is not a standard book. When you take it in your hands, you start reading it and you understand that you can work with it. It is instructive about our life and our daily lives.
It contains wisdom and love that are channeled through its exercises that teach us to make the best choices for ourselves. This manual helps us to find our inner goals by following its steps.
At the end of the book you will have a clearer view on your future, of how you see yourself.
Personally, I really liked the story with the cocoon and the butterfly. Just as the caterpillar grows slowly and steadily in its cocoon (itself) until it grows up and gets the strength to fly when it is a butterfly, so life teaches us to be patient and work with ourselves for the changes to come.

What a wonderful study visit
Hélène is fantastic. She organises the study trip for refugee teachers pleasantly and very clearly. She creates a casual, warm atmosphere and is passionate about her own humanitarian work on Lesvos.
Hélène jumps into the unexpected, is a nice travel companion and sets an example in inner leadership. First and foremost because she facilitates and organises this study visit but also because she dares to think outside the box and presents a fascinating story of her own humanitarian work in 2015/2016 as a one-person organisation. Everything she shares is evidence of taking inner leadership. Wow.

Everyone who works with refugee children should get started with the e-learning 'Teaching Refugee Children'. Very special! There is a lot of talk about what to do and what not to do with newcomers. But for this training, everything that is written matters, they are not empty words. You are indeed human first and then teacher.

We enjoyed an online study day about self-care by Hélène van Oudheusden with the team. Not obvious, but it was very much appreciated. A few reactions from the team: "The study day has been good." "So positive!" "So grateful!" "What a bliss to feel our sense of community again."

Hélène van Oudheusden is more than a coach. She is distinguished by her attention to the person behind the teacher and the peace she offers in this.

Self-care is a new and sometimes complicated matter for me, but Hélène has made me realize that I am traveling as a hero myself. That makes me curious
